CSUB Ready for Saturday's Senior Night, Homecoming

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Senior Night for CSU Bakersfield's men's basketball team has arrived as the Roadrunners are preparing to send off their four seniors with one last game in the Icardo Center. On Saturday, Feb. 23, CSUB will host California Baptist in a rematch of a high-scoring contest in Riverside, Calif. back in January.

"[Senior Night] is always bittersweet," said Rod Barnes, CSUB's Head Coach. "The bitter part is you know it's coming to an end. The sweet part is you see all the accomplishments, what they have done, and how they have helped our program."

Barnes' squad started Western Athletic Conference play hot, posting a 6-1 record out of the gate. Since then, CSUB has won one of its last five games including a pair of overtime losses. Despite the struggles, the `Runners remain in the upper half of the WAC standings and are looking to finish strong at home to build momentum for the final two weeks on the road.

When asked about the team's recent tough losses, Barnes expressed optimism for the future: "I'm not really concerned because I have a good feeling of where our team is…It's great to win, but it's more about trying to build toward the [WAC] Tournament."

California Baptist entered the week on a four-game win streak with WAC victories over Seattle U, Chicago State, and Kansas City. When the `Runners and Lancers clashed on Jan. 24, an offensive fight came down to the finish. CSUB was able to hold on for an 88-84 victory on the road behind a CSUB Division I single-game record of 34 points from sophomore Jarkel Joiner.

Saturday's game will be full of fun festivities for fans starting with a pregame Senior Night ceremony starting at 7 p.m. The four `Runner seniors – Rickey Holden, James Suber, Damiyne Durham, and Bray Barnes – will all be honored on court before playing on the Kern Schools Court one last time. At halftime, the campus' Associated Students, Inc. will announce the Homecoming Court, the culmination of Homecoming Week.

Tipoff on Saturday is scheduled for immediately after the 7 p.m. Senior Night ceremony. Fans who are unable to attend the game can follow along live via WatchESPN, CSUB's radio broadcast, or live stats. Links for all three options are available on the CSUB men's basketball schedule page.
