WAC Indoor Championships On Tap For CSUB This Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2019 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships is set to commence this weekend as the women's indoor team prepares to close their season in Boise, Idaho. Ford Idaho Center is the predetermined venue for the championship meet that begins on Friday, February 22 with pentathlon and heptathlon events then concludes the following night with running events.

Jaylen Christensen, the only pentathlon entry for Bakersfield, will be the first athlete to compete for the Roadrunners as the freshman looks to place in her first attempt at multi events this year. Christensen opens the competition with the 60-meter hurdles followed by three field events (high jump, shot put, and long jump), and finishes with an 800-meters race.

Field events are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. MT on Friday following the heptathlon and pentathlon events. After two years absent from the field, She'Pree Brevil returns for her first collegiate championship meet. She'll compete in the triple and long jump over the weekend.

Hannah Walker placed third in high jump at indoor championships last season as a freshman, earning conference honors in the event. High jump is the last field event scheduled on Saturday as Walker looks to improve on her previous mark and podium finish while taking home another conference nod.

CSU Bakersfield's indoor track and field team are led by Mariah LeSure and Julianne Finch. Both athletes are positioned to garner conference accolades this season in their respective events.

Finch holds the program record in pole vault and is a three-time All-WAC performer while LeSure ranks second all-time in the 60-meter dash, is top three in the league, and has sights set on advancing to her first conference final and earning her first podium finish.
