CSUB Celebrates Icardo Center's 30th Anniversary

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – On Feb. 18, 1989, a new era started for CSU Bakersfield Athletics as the Roadrunners enjoyed their first-ever home game in the brand new CSUB Activities Center, later renamed the Icardo Center. On that day, the CSUB men's basketball team christened the new building with a 99-86 victory over Cal Poly Pomona, the first of many victories to come over the next three decades.

Since then, the `Runners have enjoyed many great moments inside the walls of the Icardo Center. Enjoy this video tribute showing the progress the building – and CSUB Athletics –  has made over the past 30 years:

Some other great moments on CSUB's home court include:
  • The men's basketball team went 20-0 at home during the 1992-93 season on the way to a 33-0 record and the program's first of three NCAA Division II National Championships in a span of five years.
  • The women's basketball team boasted a 16-0 record in the Icardo Center in 2014-15 on the way to 22 consecutive victories at home.
  • The men's basketball team won its first WAC regular-season title during the 2016-17 season and enjoyed cutting down the nets on Senior Night in the Icardo Center.
If you have not been out to the Icardo Center recently, it is due time. CSUB Athletics has worked tirelessly to make its home court one of the best places in the nation for NCAA Division I competition. The `Runner men's basketball team is set to host California Baptist on Saturday, Feb. 23, in its last home game of the season. Then, the CSUB women's basketball team will play its final three games of the regular season at home, beginning on Saturday, Mar. 2.
