Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CSUB Closes Non-conference Home Slate Undefeated

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team closed its non-conference home slate undefeated on Saturday afternoon against a visiting UC Santa Barbara. With the 66-62 victory over the Gauchos, the `Runners win their six-straight contest and extend their home streak to eight games. It was a thriller that put an emphasis on each possession through the last whistle. UCSB made four more free throws than the Roadrunners but four more made baskets from the home team canceled out the visitors edge from the charity stripe.

Bakersfield opened the game with a four-point edge in the first quarter but the Gauchos would respond and close the half with their own four-point advantage to tie the game at the end of the second period.

A lopsided third quarter in favor of CSUB gave the `Runners a nine-point lead heading into the fourth.

UCSB keyed in on Vanessa Austin, sending an extra defender from help side the moment she got a touch in the lower block. She was still perfect on her two attempts and finished with four points and four rebounds.

Jayden Eggleston led the Roadrunners in scoring with fourteen points. Andie Easley added eleven while Miracle Saxon had a near double-double with ten points and eight rebounds.

UC Santa Barbara's Danae Miller had her way in the first half. She was at the rim whenever she wanted to be and her game-high twelve points at the end of the second period showed for it. Bakersfield tightened the chains on Miller in the second half as the `Runners held her to one made field goal. She finished with sixteen points.

CSU Bakersfield (8-3) closes its non-conference slate on the road with fifth-ranked Oregon State on Sunday, December 29 and UC Riverside on Tuesday, December 31.
