NDSU Hands CSUB Tough Loss in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – On the heels of a war with No. 7 Minnesota, CSU Bakersfield's wrestling team wrapped up a busy opening weekend at North Dakota State. The Bison produced another strong squad in 2019-20 and used the home mat advantage to take a 24-9 win over the Roadrunners.

"This trip was good for one reason only," said Manny Rivera, CSUB's Head Coach. "It let our team know that we have a lot of work to do."

The dual started with the 184-pound matchup and NDSU's TJ Pottinger got a late takedown to earn a 7-6 decision against Bakersfield's Josh Loomer. At 197, Dominic Ducharme trailed Cordell Eaton 1-0 heading into the third period, but CSUB's redshirt junior earned an escape and a takedown to win, 3-1.

The Bison won the next four bouts including a narrow, 2-1 loss for Jarrod Snyder in the heavyweight match. Redshirt senior Russell Rohlfing improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 7-2 decision over Jaden VanMaanen in the 149-pound bout.

CSUB concluded Sunday afternoon's match with a win at 174. Redshirt senior Josh Annis earned a 10-6 decision over Jimmy Noel, but NDSU had already clinched the victory.

After a pair of road duals to open the season, the `Runners are headed back to Bakersfield to prepare for their home opener next week. On Saturday, Nov. 16, CSUB will welcome Rutgers and Life Pacific to the Icardo Center for a tri-dual.
