`Runners Surge for Big Win in Exhibition



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A slow start gave way to a strong finish for the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team in Saturday night's exhibition game in the Icardo Center. The Roadrunners shook off the dust after the first 12 minutes and ran away for a 90-49 victory over Westcliff University Saturday night.

Redshirt junior Taze Moore led the way for CSUB, posting 20 points in just 12 minutes played in the exhibition. Junior college transfers Ronne Readus and Czar Perry were the only other two `Runners to score in double digits with 11 points each. Bakersfield's Head Coach, Rod Barnes, used the game as a tool to test several different lineups as all 11 `Runners played at least 11 minutes on Saturday.

After holding a 19-18 lead with just under eight minutes to go in the first half, CSUB surged to the halftime break. The `Runners outscored the Warriors 27-5 over that span, taking a 46-23 lead into the locker room. Moore, a native of Southaven, Miss., scored 16 of his 20 points in the opening period and scarcely played in the second half.

Bakersfield's momentum rolled into the final 20 minutes as the team opened the half with an 8-0 run. The `Runners continued to surge, building a 41-point lead at 83-42 with just under three minutes to go. CSUB ended up with the 41-point margin and a 90-49 victory on the blue Kern Schools Court.

With the exhibition victory under their belt, the `Runners have just two full days to prepare for their regular-season opener. On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Bakersfield will officially kick off the 2019-20 season with a matchup against NCAA Division II member Notre Dame de Namur in the Icardo Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. against the Argonauts as CSUB's game is the back half of a doubleheader with the women's team.
