Bonifacio's Record Pushes CSUB to Win on Senior Night

Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Locked in a tight battle for the final spot in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament next week, CSU Bakersfield's volleyball team entered Monday night's match needing a win. The Roadrunners battled from two sets down to earn a 3-2 victory (20-25, 25-27, 27-25, 25-18, 15-5) on Senior Night in the Icardo Center.
 
Redshirt sophomore Brooke Boiseau made a huge impact on Monday night's contest, tallying a career-high 22 kills on .400 hitting to go with four blocks. Defensively, senior Rafa Bonifacio came up big all night long, tying CSUB's Division I, single-match record with 39 digs against the Vaqueros.

The `Runners also got solid outputs out of a pair of sophomore pin hitters in Hayley McCluskey (14 kills) and Milica Vukobrat (11 kills, 12 digs) while redshirt senior Sidney Wicks posted 35 assists. Senior Ally Barber chipped in five kills and four blocks on Monday while fellow senior Hannah Manzanares tallied four digs and an ace.

CSUB battled hard in each of the first two sets, but found itself on the wrong end of the score both sets. The third set raged into extra points, but the `Runners came out on top this time, extending the match with a 27-25 victory.

Bakersfield used a big surge in the middle of Set 4 to pull away from UTRGV as the `Runners tied the match at two sets apiece with a 25-18 win. CSUB continued to roll and dominated the deciding set for a 15-5 win that gave the `Runners a vital leg up in the WAC standings.

CSUB (9-18, 4-11 WAC) now holds a half-match lead over Seattle U (12-16, 3-11 WAC) as the two teams are fighting over the sixth and final spot in the WAC Tournament. The Redhawks would win a tiebreaker over the `Runners, so, CSUB needed Monday night's victory to put pressure on Seattle U.

The `Runners have one match remaining in the regular season, this upcoming Saturday, a road contest at Grand Canyon. Seattle U will have a Thursday matchup at home against Utah Valley before closing out the regular season on the road against California Baptist on Sunday.
