One Match, All on the Line for Women’s Soccer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer 2019 conference slate will come to an end on Saturday after the Roadrunners play against Grand Canyon in search for three crucial match points and a guaranteed spot in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

There is only one objective this weekend – win it to be in it.

"We are looking to secure some points to make it to the tournament," explained head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We didn't get it done earlier in the year and now it comes down to the last game of the season."

Grand Canyon leads the all-time series (5-0-5). Bakersfield and GCU check in with the same league record (3-4-0), however the Roadrunners are a couple games off from a winning season (8-9-1) while the Lopes have totaled four wins on the year. Last season the match went to double overtime with no winner as the two teams tied 3-3.

GCU is led by junior Camryn Larson and redshirt freshman Dani Babb who each have four goals for a team-high eight points. Camryn has appeared and started in all of the Lopes 17 contests while Babb is at 13-6.

Bakersfield has five players with eight or more points this season. Eszter Toth leads the team in scoring. She has four goals and four assists for a total of 12 points. Chelsee Duran is close behind with eleven points (4g, 3a). Jordan Martinez and Sophie Freeman each have nine points (4g, 1a) while Aryana Harvey closes out the group with eight (1g, 6a).

"Our kids have responded all year long and Saturday won't be any different," added Vecchio. "I don't know if we will win, tie, or loose, but we will be ready to compete."
