CSUB set for Home Exhibition, Regular-Season Opener

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Only two days remain until CSU Bakersfield's men's basketball team opens the 2019-20 season. The Roadrunners are preparing to host Westcliff in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 2, before officially kicking off the season with the regular-season opener on Nov. 5 against Notre Dame de Namur.

"I'm excited about this team and I have really been impressed with how hard they have worked," Head Coach Rod Barnes said of his `Runners. "We have a lot of things we still need to work on, but I think the culture we're building with this team, we'll represent Bakersfield in the way that we always do: we'll play hard and we'll play together."

The `Runners will kick off the year with intentions of returning to postseason play for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Bakersfield is led by its co-captains, a pair of redshirt juniors in Justin Edler-Davis and De'Monte Buckingham.

Bakersfield's first two games of the season will be against Westcliff University, an NAIA member, and Notre Dame de Namur, an NCAA Division II program. The Warriors and Argonauts represent good opportunities for Coach Barnes and his staff to assess CSUB's lineup and test out combinations of student-athletes on the court. The `Runners will enjoy their first 80 minutes on the court, leading into the early portions of a challenging non-conference schedule.

Saturday's game against Westcliff is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in CSUB's Icardo Center. On Tuesday, the `Runner men will play NDNU after Bakersfield's women in a doubleheader. The women's game against Dominguez Hills will begin at 5 p.m. and the men will tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m.

All season long, CSUB's home games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks with most games airing on WatchESPN and ESPN3.com while the WAC Game of the Week against Chicago State will be available on ESPN+. All of Bakersfield's games, home and away, will be on the radio as well with Isaac Lowenkron returning for his second season behind the mic.
