WAC Begins this Weekend for Women's Soccer



BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team opens its 2019 conference slate this weekend at the Main Soccer Field when the Roadrunners welcome California Baptist on Friday (Oct. 4) before hosting the Utah Valley Wolverines Sunday (Oct. 6).
 
The Roadrunners have the next eight contests to best position themselves for WAC seeding after being picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll.
 
Bakersfield and UVU check in at 5-5-1, while the Lancers are 7-2-1 on year. CSUB started preseason off with a win, loss, another win, before a two-game skid, followed by a four-game unbeaten streak that turned into another two-game slip. Bakersfield leads the all-time series with California Baptist after an instrumental shutout road win in 2018. This season the Lancers and Roadrunners shared seven of the same preseason opponents. Similar teams on paper, CBU tallied ten goals against common opponents compared to CSUB's nine.
 
Utah Valley leads the all-time series favorably (9-2), but the last time the Wolverines were at the Main Soccer Field it was a late penalty kick in the 80th minute that then freshman Breanna DeWaal recorded for the game-winner. 
 
Bakersfield is led offensively by senior Sophie Freeman and junior Eszter Toth. Freeman leads the team in points with seven (3g, 1a), while the veteran duo each have three goals this season. Aryana Harvey is CSUB's lead facilitator as the redshirt senior has four assists.
