Bakersfield Heads to UVU, Seattle U This Week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner volleyball team earned some much-needed momentum with a win at home on Saturday. CSU Bakersfield will look to ride that momentum into a week with a pair Western Athletic Conferences matches on the road against Utah Valley and Seattle U.

"These next couple weeks are very crucial for our team," said Giovana Melo, CSUB's Director of Volleyball. "We will have to show the same resilience we showed on Saturday and get better every time we step on the court." The `Runners have just three weeks of competition left before the seeds for the WAC Tournament are decided.

Utah Valley (8-13, 5-4 WAC) will welcome CSUB to Orem, Utah on Halloween night. The Wolverines split a pair of league matches last week, sweeping Seattle U before falling to WAC-leader NM State in four sets. Last month, CSUB and UVU met in the Icardo Center and the Wolverines earned a 3-0 victory in Bakersfield.

After a strong start during non-conference play, Seattle U (10-14, 1-9 WAC) has struggled in its WAC matches this season. The Redhawks are currently on a five-match losing streak including a pair of losses last week to two of the WAC's top teams. At the beginning of October, the `Runners outlasted the Redhawks in five sets in the Icardo Center.

CSUB (8-14, 3-7 WAC) got back on track with a 3-2 victory over Chicago State. The `Runners had been on a bit of a slide themselves with five-straight losses before that, but each defeat came after a hard-fought battle with not one sweep in the bunch. In a busy week with three matches, redshirt sophomore Brooke Boiseau led the way for Bakersfield with 3.29 kills and 1.14 blocks per set last week.

Thursday's match at Utah Valley is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (PT) first serve. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the `Runners and Redhawks will clash at 1 p.m. in Seattle.
