CSUB to Host 2 Matches, Auction Jerseys to Fight Cancer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield volleyball team is gearing up for a big week featuring a pair of Western Athletic Conference home matches in the Icardo Center. While competing is at the forefront of Roadrunners' minds, CSUB is also playing for a cause all week long. Bakersfield will host its Lace Up for Cancer match on Thursday, Oct. 24 and its Pink Game on Saturday, Oct. 26, with a jersey silent auction highlighting the latter match.

When Kansas City comes to town on Thursday, the `Runners will be fighting for a win with a little extra inspiration. CSUB will be honoring a cancer survivor at the match, giving the `Runners more incentive to stay strong against a tough squad. The Roos (10-8, 6-2 WAC) split a pair of home games, losing to WAC-leader NM State before defeating UTRGV. Kansas City swept CSUB 3-0 in the two teams' first meeting of the season last month.

Saturday's match features a special opportunity for fans as the `Runners are holding a silent auction during the match against Chicago State. CSUB will be auctioning off three of its pink jerseys and the winner will be announced during the match. The `Runners are accepting pre-bids to get the auction started. Pre-bids can be submitted using this form.

Chicago State (4-18, 0-8 WAC) and CSUB went toe-to-toe at the end of September, but the `Runners earned a 3-1 road victory. The Cougars are winless in league play after taking a pair of losses against NMSU and UTRGV, but scored 18 points or more in each of their six sets last week.

Thursday's Lace Up for Cancer match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve in the Icardo Center. On Saturday, CSUB and Chicago State will start the Pink Game at 1 p.m. with the silent auction closing during the match.
