CBU Snaps Roadrunner Win Streak With Hot Shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball dropped their third Western Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday night to intrastate rival California Baptist. The Lancers found success behind the arch, knocking down twelve threes on 40.0% shooting in route to a 68-45 win over the Roadrunners.

The first quarter was played tight. Both teams made the same number of shots (7) and finished with similar field goal percentages, but CBU was able to tally one more three than the home team to give themselves a one-point lead at the end of the period.

Behind five made threes in the second quarter, California Baptist was able to put nineteen points on the scoreboard while holding the Roadrunners to single digits (8). The Lancers had a twelve-point lead at the end of the first half. It was just the sixth time this season the `Runners were down by double-digits at the half.

Bakersfield played CBU tight in the third period allowing the Lancers to finish with just a two-point advantage in scoring, but wasn't enough to counter the twelve-point deficit built in the first half. The Roadrunners found themselves down 38-52 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

The Lancers shot their best percentage from the field in the fourth while holding the `Runners to single-digits (7) and below 20.0% for the second time in the contest. CSUB took more shots than the visiting team but weren't able to knock down routine attempts and the final 68-45 score reflected that.

Alexxus Gilbert had two points in the first half before finding her groove in the second and adding fourteen more to her point total for a team-high 16 points. She was the only player for Bakersfield to score double-digits while CBU had three in double figures. Jeri Fears was active on the defensive end and recorded a career and game-high four steals.
