Bakersfield Opens Conference With Clean Slate On The Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball will open Western Athletic Conference play this weekend when the Roadrunners travel to two different states for a couple of league contests with Seattle University on Thursday and Utah Valley University on Saturday. Tip off with the Redhawks is set for 6 p.m. while the Wolverines matchup is on tap for 2 p.m.

Seattle U enters conference action with a clean slate after going 0-13 in nonconference. Utah Valley finished their nonconference schedule 6-7 and host Grand Canyon University on Thursday before welcoming Bakersfield to Lockhart Arena.

The Roadrunners have won 14 out of 22 contests played against SU since their first meeting in 2003. The teams split regular season action 1-1 then saw each other for a third time in the WAC Tournament championship game. CSUB came three points short of earning their first postseason title a year ago and will look to send a message to the reigning WAC champions this week.

With an eighty percent all-time win record against the Wolverines, last year's regular season sweep, and eight returners suiting up this Saturday, Bakersfield is the anticipated favorite.

CSUB picked up its second 12-point loss of the season on New Years Eve when the Roadrunners hosted UC Riverside and dropped a 67-79 decision. Three `Runners finished in double figures including Alexxus Gilbert (20), Malayasia McHenry (17), and JJ Johnson (12). McHenry tallied her third double-double this year with 12 rebounds.
