CSUB Hosts Fresno Pacific for Senior Day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield swimming and diving teams will conclude their home schedule and the regular season on Saturday when they host Fresno Pacific at 12:00 p.m. on Senior Day. 

"Senior meet is always an emotional day for me and this one will be on of the hardest," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "13 of the 14 seniors have been with me all four years.  Fresno Pacific has always been a great team and we have to be our best to win both meets.  This will be senior Darya (Samiee), Kiana (Dorris) and Nick's (Bustamante) last meet with us and we are expecting fast swims from them to lead us to two victories."

Last season, the men's team knocked off Fresno Pacific 173-120 on January 20, while the women's team was defeated by the Sunbirds 177-123.

In last year's dual with the Sunbirds, Maddie Cosgrove won the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.16), while Jayssie Haynes was victorious in the 400 individual medley (4:26.26). 

As the regular season comes to a close, the `Runners still stack up against some of the conference's best.  Autumn D'Arcy has powered the CSUB women this season and tops the conference in the 100 fly (53.50) and the 200 IM (2:02.61).  She also teamed with Haynes, Cosgrove and Bridget Allison to swim the WAC's top time in the 800 free relay (7:27.23).  The freshman also ranks third in the 50 freestyle (23.28) and fourth in the 100 free (51.04). 

Haynes, Cosgrove and Tabea Mose also rank in the top five on the WAC leaderboard.  Haynes is second in the 400 IM (4:23.99) and fourth in the 500 free (4:56.68) and 200 breast (2:16.49).  Cosgrove checks in second in the 200 fly (2:03.02) and Mose is in the fifth position in the 100 back (56.76). 

The Sunbirds and `Runners already competed once this season at the UNLV Invite.  CSUB finished seventh at the three-day invitational with 301 points, while Fresno Pacific took ninth with 118. 

Noah Hultner brought home victories in the 1,000 free (9:43.09) and the 500 free (4:44.15) in the dual win over Fresno Pacific last season.  Adam Estrella and Drew Huerta went 1-2 in 1-meter and 3-meter diving competition, while Greg Lee won the 200 breaststroke (2:07.49) and Loren Gillilan touched the wall first in the 100 fly (49.89).  Kris Rogic matched Hultner's two wins with victories in the 200 back (1:52.31) and 400 IM (4:09.05). 

In the WAC standings, Rogic leads the way for CSUB as he ranks sixth in the 100 back (48.75) and eighth in the 200 back (1:49.21), while Gillilan ranks third in the 100 fly (48.07).  Justice Kramer and Benji Duenas also crack rank fairly high individually with Kramer ranking 11th in the 200 IM (1:52.52) and Duenas 10th in the 400 IM (4:03.11). 

At the UNLV Invite earlier this year, the Sunbirds finished sixth with 312 points and the Roadrunners finished in seventh with 261. 

The dual at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center will begin at 12:00 p.m.
