Women’s Soccer Wraps Up Nonconference Road Slate Sunday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team will wrap up its nonconference road slate this Sunday against Northern Arizona University. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

This will be the third meeting between Bakersfield and Northern Arizona. The all-time series is knotted 1-1 with each team securing a win on the road. The first meeting between the two clubs dates back to 2012 when the Roadrunners opened the series with a 3-2 win in Flagstaff, Ariz. The following season the Lumberjacks stole a 1-0 decision on the Main Soccer Field.

"I think we need to be a little bit more consistent in what we do," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "When we execute the game plan and the principles that we learn on the practice field we're really good."

CSUB split its last two contests. The `Runners tabbed their first win of the season against Southern Utah Friday, Aug. 31, but stumbled at UNLV two days later for their fourth loss on the year. Aminah Settles scored the game-winner over the Thunderbirds off a short through ball from sophomore Keneika Jenkins. Bakersfield goalkeeper Jordan Bertram has 26 saves through the first five contests.

"We tend to take breaks," added Vecchio. "Once we get that consistency level of being able to play a 90-minute game we'll be in good shape."

Northern Arizona has recorded three wins, one loss, and one tie through its first five matches. NAU was picked to finish fourth in the Big Sky Conference preseason coaches' poll. Five Lumberjacks have scored a goal this season, while Tatum Heeres has a team-best three assists on the year.
