Roadrunners Open WAC Action On The Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team will open its Western Athletic Conference slate on the road with Chicago State University and University of Missouri - Kansas City on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

"In order for us to be succesful this weekend we will have to be disciplined in our game plan and execute defensively and offensively for 90-plus minutes," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio.

This will be the fifth time that Bakersfield has faced CSU. The first meeting between both programs dates back to 2014 when the Roadrunners opened the series with a 3-1 edge over the Cougars on the road then tallied a 9-1 decision in the following season at home. CSUB recorded six goals against Chicago State in 2016 (W, 6-0) and in 2017 (W, 6-1), owns the all-time series 4-0.

CSU Bakersfield is 0-7 when matched up with UMKC. The two clubs first met in 2013 and played each other twice in one season to open the all-time series. The Kangaroos took last year's meeting 2-0 at Main Soccer Field.

Chicago State (0-8-1) has lost its last eight matches to Purdue Fort Wayne, Indiana State, Western Illinois, UMass, Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, and Cleveland State while Kansas City (8-3-0) is coming off a 3-2 win over South Dakota and will host UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday before preparing for Sunday's clash against the Roadrunners.

CSUB closed its nonconference schedule with a 2-1 double-overtime win over University of Pacific. Senior center midfielder Claire Nelson scored the first and golden goal for Bakersfield to top the Tigers while Aryana Harvey tabbed her first assist of the season and leads the team with five points.

"I expect us to come out and compete for 90 during both games this weekend," added Vecchio. "It is conference time and every single point you get matters. We have to take care of our home games and any point you get on the road is a bonus."
