BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Back-to-back Western Athletic Conference victories and a five-match win streak have the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team rolling through the middle of the season. Not wanting to lose any momentum, the Roadrunners are preparing to face off against Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday in the Icardo Center.
"We planned this game mid-week because we don't play until Saturday, so, it was a good time to do a midweek match," said
Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. "Cal State Fullerton had a great preseason. They are a good team. We are excited to play another Big West team."
The Titans (6-9, 0-3 BWC) come into the non-conference matchup on an eight-match skid. Cal State Fullerton dropped a pair of Big West Conference matchups at home last week, including a 3-0 sweep at the hands of UC Santa Barbara. Bakersfield swept UCSB at the Roadrunner Classic two weeks ago.
Last season, the `Runners traveled down to Fullerton, Calif. and defeated the host Titans 3-1. In the all-time series, Cal State Fullerton leads 2-1 with the first-ever meeting taking place in 2007.
CSUB (8-6, 2-0 WAC) is fresh off a pair of victories over WAC opponents this past week. The `Runners downed UT Rio Grande Valley 3-1 on Thursday before taking out defending WAC regular-season Champion NM State in a five-set thrilled on Saturday. Redshirt freshman
Brooke Boiseau led the `Runners on the week with 3.11 kills and 1.56 blocks per set.
Tuesday's preview of a future Big West matchup will begin at 6 p.m. in the Icardo Center. The evening, tabbed as "CrossFit Night", will feature in-game entertainment certain to tickle the fancy of CrossFit fans across Bakersfield. CSUB's coaches and student-athletes are big fans of the trending workout style and use CrossFit regularly for conditioning and strength.
