Women's Soccer Clips Tigers 2-1 In 2OT

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team tabbed its third win of the season with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over University of Pacific on Friday at Main Soccer Field. The Roadrunners improved to 3-6-0 on the year while the Tigers fell 2-7-0.

"I'm excited to see their hard work paying off lately," said first-year head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We wanted to go 3-1 in the last four nonconference games. But 2-2, playing the way we are playing is okay for now. The last four games I saw a team that is coming together and finding an identity."

Claire Nelson scored in the 16th minute of the contest off a corner from Anesa Sasivarevic to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead. It was Nelson's first goal and Sasivarevic's first assist on the year. Isabella Pariente knotted the score 1-1 in the 38th minute off her own free kick. Pacific went into the locker room with a slight 5-4 advantage in shots on goal through the first 45 minutes.

Both defenses did a good job in the second half at keeping their shape and preventing the offense from finding the gaps.

Redshirt junior forward Aryana Harvey sent a ball through Tiger jerseys to connect with senior mid center Nelson who scored the golden goal in the 108th minute to end the match.

The 2-1 2OT decision marks the first time that the Roadrunners have beaten the Tigers since the two clubs met in 2007. Bakersfield is now 1-3 in the all-time series against Pacific.

"We still have a few things that we need to improve on going into WAC play," added Vecchio. "But the team is in a good spot."

CSU Bakersfield women's soccer will open its Western Athletic Conference slate next weekend on the road with Chicago State on Friday, Sept. 28 (1 p.m. CT) and Kansas City Sunday, Sept. 30 (12:30 p.m. CT).
