Roadrunners Welcome Saint Mary’s & CSUN This Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team welcomes Saint Mary's College (Calif.) and future Big West Conference foe Cal State Northridge to Main Soccer Field on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

"I expect us to come out and play our best soccer for 90 minutes," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We've talked a lot about being consistent with our performance and that is what I'll be looking for this weekend."

Bakersfield (1-5-0) will face two tough tests this weekend. The Gaels (4-3-0) are coming off a 1-0 win against Fresno State while the Matadors (3-2-1) will host No. 24 Texas Tech on Thursday before preparing for Sunday's clash against the Roadrunners.

"For us, the lineup will change slightly game by game depending on what players do on the training ground," added Vecchio. "We like to reward players when we can, and getting a start here and there is a way to do that."

This will be the seventh and sixth time that CSU Bakersfield will face Saint Mary's College and Cal State Northridge, respectively.

The last meeting with SMC took two extended periods to decide a winner a year ago. CSUB scored the golden goal of the match in the 109th minute to take the 2-1 victory over the Gaels. The last time CSUB defeated CSUN was a 1-0 shutout win back in 2009.

Bakersfield owns a 3-1-2 all-time record over Saint Mary's while Northridge holds a 1-4-0 advantage over the Roadrunners.

Bakersfield tabbed its fifth loss of the season last weekend in a heartbreaking 2-1 decision at Northern Arizona University. Aryana Harvey recorded her second goal of the season in the contest, while Sabrina Delgado tallied her ninth career assist.

"We will continue to work on ourselves, making sure we fine tune our strengths and get better in our weaker areas," said Vecchio.
