CSUB Hosts Southern Utah In Doubleheader Friday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team is set to welcome Southern Utah University on Friday, Aug. 31 to the Main Soccer Field for a 5 p.m. tilt. A win Friday could very well be four seasons overdue with the matchup being put on hiatus after the 2014 season.

Bakersfield owns an undefeated 2-0 record at home against Southern Utah while the all-time series is tied 2-2. The first meeting between both programs dates back to 2011 when the Roadrunners opened the series with a 3-0 shutout over the Thunderbirds at home but then dropped a close 3-2 decision the following season on the road.

The last two meetings between both clubs resulted in a similar home-away split. In 2013, the `Runners took a commanding 4-1 win over the Thunderbirds in Bakersfield, Calif. then went to Cedar City, Utah the next year and suffered a 5-0 loss.

"Southern Utah will provide us with another opportunity to grow as we continue to prepare for conference," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "We've improved every match this year as a team and I expect nothing less this Friday."

CSUB is coming off three tough losses to Eastern Washington, UC Riverside, and Loyola Chicago. Aryana Harvey scored her fourth career goal and her first tally of the season in her last contest against the Ramblers.

"We'll be ready to face a very good Southern Utah program," added Vecchio. "We've had a good week of training so far and are all eager to get our first win under our belt."

SUU has recorded one win and three losses to begin its 2018 campaign. The Thunderbirds were picked to finish ninth in the Big Sky Conference preseason coaches' poll. Brianna Aldridge tabbed a Big Sky Conference Player of the Week nod for her performance in goal against UNLV and Nevada last week.

Bakersfield goalkeeper Jordan Bertram has been solid in goal with 12 saves through three contests.

FAN ENGAGEMENT
Friday night will feature the first of three double-headers out at the Main Soccer Field this season. Students that come to the game and check into the Roadrunner Rewards app could win a chance for a whole pizza at halftime or in between games.
