`Runners Close Road Swing Friday, Set For Home Opener Sunday

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team will close out its three-game road swing at UC Riverside Friday before opening its home slate at the Main Soccer Field Sunday against Loyola University Chicago.

"We need games to find our rhythm and our best line-up as we move forward," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "This weekend we have two great opportunities to grow as a team and start finding our identity."

UC Riverside (2-0-0) will host Bakersfield (0-1-0) Friday, Aug. 24 at the UCR Soccer Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. This will be the ninth time the two teams meet. The `Runners picked up a 3-2 double-overtime victory over the Highlanders back on Sept. 25, 2016, but fell 3-1 to the Highlanders last season.

The Roadrunners then welcome Loyola Chicago (1-1-0) to the Main Soccer Field. The two teams will meet for the first time in women's soccer on Sunday, Aug. 26 for a 12 p.m. tilt.

CSUB dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime road decision to Eastern Washington last Friday, Aug. 17. Returners Sabrina Delgado, Aryana Harvey and Tori VandeHoef each took a shot, while VandeHoef recorded the only shot on goal for the `Runners in the contest.

The Roadrunners' scheduled clash at Gonzaga two days later was cancelled due to poor air quality.

"We are excited to get out there and compete again," added Vecchio. "After a tough loss, you just want to get back on the field for another chance to perform and we didn't have the opportunity to do that against Gonzaga last weekend."
