CSUB Athletics To Unveil 'Kern Schools Court' Thursday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield Athletics Department is excited to announce renovations on the home court of the Roadrunners is complete and ready to be revealed. An unveiling ceremony will take place in the Icardo Center on Thursday, Aug. 16, when the new blue court design will be on display for the first time.

Work on the court began shortly after the end of basketball season in March, and has come to an end. The portable blue court was removed with the center court below fully replaced with a "Bio-Channel Classic Floor" from Robbins Sports Surfaces. Both outer courts were resurfaced this summer and the blue court that `Runner fans have grown to love now has updated colors and a fresh design.

The Bio-Channel Classic court is used as the primary home court of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves as well as in the practice facilities of the Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers. The industry's original anchored resilient system, the Bio-Channel Classic assures a uniform playing surface with no dead spots and just the right amount of deflection and shock absorption.

The renovations to CSUB's renowned blue court were made possible thanks to Kern Schools Federal Credit Union. In appreciation of the generosity that allowed CSUB to replace the elevated portable court and the outdated, original flooring system with a state-of-the-art performance system, CSUB will now call the court "Kern Schools Court".

CSUB's Director of Athletics, Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried, expressed great appreciation for Kern Schools' commitment to the program: "Kern Schools continues to make an impact in our community, our university, and our athletics department. Thanks to their generous gift, we now have one of the best courts in the nation. Our new court is the same court that is used by Duke, North Carolina, Michigan, Kentucky, and the Los Angeles Lakers. That is great company! We are excited that our volleyball, women's basketball, and men's basketball student-athletes will be able to compete and train on this premier surface."

"Kern Schools has a proud and long-standing tradition of partnering with CSU Bakersfield," said Steve Renock, President/CEO of Kern Schools. "Our campus-wide partnership and ongoing affiliation with CSUB goes beyond the court naming to include, among other things, sponsorship of the Kegley Institute of Ethics as well as awarding student scholarships. This relationship is designed to enrich student life in the classroom as well as with athletics and extra-curricular activities. Kern Schools could not be more proud in partnering with an institution which shares the common vision of bettering the lives of people in our community."

Members of the Kern Schools staff will be present at the unveiling ceremony along with CSUB Athletics administration, staff, and student-athletes. The media and public are invited to attend the ceremony, which begins promptly at 2 p.m., and celebrate along with the `Runners as they see the Kern Schools Court for the first time.
