Rogic Earns Second Croatian National Title

ZAGREB, Croatia – CSU Bakersfield's Kris Rogic is one of the top swimmers in all of Croatia. After winning the 200-meter individual medley at the Croatian National Championships yesterday, Rogic won the 200-meter backstroke on Friday in a personal-best time of 2:04.12.

Rogic prevailed in a very tight race, winning by just .05 seconds. The sophomore's time qualifies him for the 2018 USA Swimming Winter Nationals, which are scheduled for November 28-December 1 in Greensboro, N.C. With today's victory, Rogic became the first Roadrunner to win two national swimming titles.

"This is a big win for Kris," said Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "This is a new event for him. We took a chance with him swimming this in place of the 400-meter individual medley and I would say we took the right chance. This kid worked really hard to win both his events so far and the CSUB family is really proud of him."

Rogic will continue the meet tomorrow with the 50-meter backstroke and conclude the weekend on Sunday with the 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke.

As a freshman, Rogic earned First Team All-Western Athletic Conference honors. He also set the CSUB school record in the 100-yard backstroke (48.13) and was part of the record-setting 200-yard medley relay team (1:28.88). Rogic also swam the third-fastest 200-yard backstroke in school history (1:47.27) and the fourth-fastest 200-yard individual medley (1:48.64).

The sophomore is also a tremendous student. He earned academic All-WAC honors and was an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
