Eight Athletes Earn Podium Finishes To Close WAC Outdoor Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – CSU Bakersfield added eight more podium finishes Saturday at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The squad totaled 12 podium finishes throughout the four-day meet. Curt Threlkeld highlighted the Roadrunner group with the sole first-place medal collected.

"Our athletes put out very strong efforts this week," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "I'm very proud of our student-athletes."
 
Threlkeld posted his seventh-best time (1:54.52) in the 800m to secure a first-place finish and subsequent First Team All-Conference honor in the event. The 6-foot sophomore is just the fourth `Runner to earn an individual track and field WAC Championship. 
 
Tristan Watson took home the next-best podium finish in the 110m hurdles. The 6-foot-2 senior advanced to his first-ever WAC Championships finals and earned the silver medal in the event with a personal-record time of 14.01. Watson is now tied at No. 2 on the program all-time depth chart and will advance to the NCAA Regionals in Sacramento, Calif Thursday, May 24 through Saturday, May 26.
 
Gabe Gaeta secured his third-place podium finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.66. The subsequent All-Conference nod is the fourth in his career.
 
Falon Wilson snagged an All-Conference award from her performance in the 100m hurdles. She placed fourth overall with a time of 13.79.
 
Jazmyne Bartee cleared the bar at 1.62m (5-03.75) to place fifth in the high jump at her first WAC Outdoor Championships. The former women's basketball center can add an All-Conference honor to her decorated dual-sport career at Bakersfield.
 
Corbin Chronister earned his second All-Conference honor of the week in the shot put. He finished sixth overall with a personal-best mark of 15.12m (49-07.25). The freshman posted top six finishes in two out of the three events he competed in.
 
Micaiah Lugo placed sixth in the hammer throw with a season-best 49.47m (162-04) mark to close out her collegiate career with a podium finish and Second Team All-Conference nod.
 
Arturo Valencia finished among the top six in the pole vault to earn his first All-Conference honor. He jumped the distance of 4.21m (13-09.75), a personal-best to place sixth overall.

The squads continue to improve year after year. The Roadrunners totaled the largest number of medals and All-Conference nods to date since joining the WAC in 2014.
