April 06, 2018

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's outdoor track and field teams will travel to Claremont, Calif. Saturday to compete in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

"This has been a positive season so far. The team has been working very hard and has shown great attitudes," said Director of Track and Field Marcia Mansur-Wentworth.

The men will be led by Corbin Chronister who has earned six top five finishes and a team-best four first-place victories to kick off his freshman campaign. Chronister will compete in the shot put, discus and hammer this weekend after placing third in each event a week ago. The Bakersfield native currently sits second in the Western Athletic Conference in the discus and hammer throws.

Curtis Threlkeld will run the 800m race and 4x400m relay Saturday. The 6-foot sophomore has posted three first-place finishes this season and currently leads the WAC in the 800m. Tristan Watson will see action in the 110m hurdles and both relays this weekend. The 6-foot-2 senior has set personal-bests in each of his last three meets and holds a league-best time in the 110m hurdles.

David Sellens III will compete in the hammer and discus throws after setting a season-best mark in the hammer last week. Gabe Gaeta will come out of the blocks for the 400m hurdles and both relays, while Tim Van Horn will contend in the high jump for his fourth first-place finish of the season.

Pole vault specialist and local product, Julianne Finch, will lead the women this weekend. She edged her own school record a week ago at the Titan Team Challenge and enters this weekend's meet second in the WAC.

Jazmyne Bartee will compete in the high jump where she has already made an impact on the team. She is currently tied at No. 10 on the all-time program list, is tied for second in the WAC and holds the squads best mark this season.

Micaiah Lugo and Falon Wilson round out the field events for the `Runners in the hammer throw and long jump, respectively. Wilson will also compete in the 100m dash, 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay. She has set personal-bests in the 100m and 100m hurdles this season. The 5-foot-5 sophomore is ranked among the top 10 in the WAC for each of her individual events.

Ariana Mariscal will run in the 800m and 4x400m relay, while Paradise Pelzer will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase for the first time this year.

"I hope the team will continue to build on the good performances so far," Mansur-Wentworth said, "and continue to move forward."
