BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield heads to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas this week in search of a Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship.
The road to a program-first NCAA berth begins Wednesday in the quarterfinals when the Roadrunners (16-12, 10-4 WAC), the No. 2 seed, take on No. 7 UTRGV (14-15, 4-10 WAC) at 2:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the first semifinal matchup on Friday and face either No. 3 Grand Canyon (15-13, 9-5 WAC) or No. 6 Utah Valley (11-18, 5-9 WAC) at Noon.
"I think we're in a good place," said head coach
Greg McCall. "We've shown a lot of consistency this season whether we came out with a win or loss and if we did lose, it was a tough loss. UTRGV is a team that can be all the way up and then all the way down, so we have to come out ready to go."
The other side of the bracket sees No. 1 New Mexico State (17-11, 11-3 WAC) face No. 8 Chicago State (1-28, 1-13 WAC) on Wednesday at 6 p.m., while the No. 4 seed Seattle (15-14, 9-5 WAC) will play No. 5 UMKC (11-18, 7-7 WAC) on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the final quarterfinal game of the day. The winner of both matchups will advance to the second semifinal game on Friday set for at 2:30 p.m. start time. All of the quarterfinal games and both semifinals will be streamed on
ESPN3.
The WAC Tournament championship game is slated for a 2 p.m. tip-off on Saturday and will also be broadcast on
ESPN3.
