CSUB To Play Its Final Road Game Of The Season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team will play its final game of the regular season against Grand Canyon University in Arizona. Roadrunners are currently sitting in the sixth spot tied with Kansas City and could stay at sixth with a win over GCU and a UMKC lost this weekend.

"Grand Canyon is a tough place to play at," said Rod Barnes, head coach of the CSUB men's basketball team. "With just playing them very recently we both know each other well, not a lot has changed. A lot is at stake when you start talking about standings and seeding, everyone is aware of what is going on, but our speech and our talk is all about playing well."

Last Saturday, the `Runners pulled out a great win against Seattle U in the Icardo Center and have won two of their last three games and hoping to make it three out of four this Saturday. Post season is still looking hopeful if Bakersfield can keep up its momentum going through the final game of regular season into post season.

CSUB will match up with GCU, who currently have a 19-10, 8-5 WAC record and sitting at a third-place spot into post but are certainly looking to take over the second-place position with a win over Bakersfield in a three-way tie. The last time the two teams went toe to toe, the `Runners defeated the Lopes 71-58 never trailing behind while redshirt freshman Justin Davis earned his first double-double and senior Brent Wrapp came up on a career total of 500 assists.

Grand Canyon will welcome Bakersfield leading the conference in three-point field goal percentage defense with 27.2% and assists to turnover ratio at 13.5 a game. The Lopes have won their last two games at home against Seattle U and Utah Valley and will looking to take another home win while wanting redemption against the `Runners this time around.

Coach Barnes went on to discuss the importance of this game, "It will be huge to win the last road game going into neutral site for post season. Winning a game like this will give us momentum into the tournament especially knowing none of the teams will be at home. Our focus right now is to be consistent and try and play two really good halves. We're hoping through this weekend we play well keep it going for post season."

Bakersfield will wrap up regular season at Grand Canyon with a tip off scheduled for 7 p.m. (M.T) on Saturday Mar. 3. Live stream and live stats will be available for Roadrunner fans to catch all the action with links attached to the schedule page.
