SACRAMENTO, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield track and field completed a full day of competition in Sacramento at the Hornet Invitational. Two of the seven student-athletes listed in the meet for the 'Runners saw action today in the hammer throw, an event that featured over 40 throwers, and advanced to the finals.
Freshman
Corbin Chronister and redshirt
David Sellens III posted marks in the top nine of their preliminary flights to qualify for and advance to the finals. Chronister, reigning Western Athletic Conference athlete of the week, finished among the top 10 overall. The Bakersfield native threw the distance of 174-03 for an eighth-place standing.
Sellens III, the University of Southern California transfer, put forth a strong preliminary showing to advance to the finals, but did not place after three straight scratches.
Saturday's competition will feature the rest of the track and field events.
Alec Benavides (javelin) and
Tim Van Horn (high jump) will join Chronister (discus/shot put) and Sellens III (discus) on the field tomorrow morning.
Curt Threlkeld (800m),
Gabriel Gaeta (400m hurdles) and
Falon Wilson (100m/100m hurdles/long jump) will represent the Roadrunners on the track Saturday. Through day one of competition in Sacramento, CSUB is fifth among the other Division I schools competing.
