CSUB To Host Fresno State In WBI Wednesday Night

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield (18-13) has been selected to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational beginning Wednesday night when the Roadrunners host Fresno State (16-14) at 7 p.m.
 
Fresno State finished fifth in the Mountain West Conference regular season standings and were knocked out of the conference tournament in the first round after a 71-55 loss to Colorado State. Junior Candice White earned Mountain West All-Conference Team honors, while teammates Aly Gamez and Maddi Utti were named to the All-Freshman Team.
 
The 'Runners are led by senior guard Aja Williams' 12.1 points per game. Junior point guard Alexxus Gilbert is second in scoring (9.5) with classmate Jazmine Johnson right behind her with 9.4 points per game. Jazmyne Bartee paces Bakersfield on the glass, averaging 6.6 rebounds per contest. This is the third-time CSUB will be playing in the WBI and the third postseason appearance in the last five seasons (WNIT 2014, 2015). The program currently holds a 3-2 record in the invitational, advancing to the championship in its last appearance (2010-2011).
 
The winner of the CSU Bakersfield-Fresno State game will face the winner of the Mar. 15 game between Nevada and UC Irvine in Reno, Nev. The remaining portion of the West bracket sees Texas Southern play Weber State at the Health and Physical Education Arena in Houston. Their start time is set for 7 p.m. CT on Mar. 15. SIUE will travel to Central Arkansas on Mar. 15 for a 7 p.m. CT tip-off. 

In the East bracket, Youngstown State will host Binghamton Mar. 14 at 7 p.m. ET, while Northeastern and Yale face one another in Boston, Mass. on Mar. 15 at 7 p.m. ET. UNC Asheville headlines the bottom half of the East region and will welcome Furman, on Mar. 15. The final first round contest features South Alabama hosting Stetson. The Jaguars (19-12) and the Hatters (17-14) will play at 7 p.m. ET on Mar. 15. For up-to-the-minute information in dates, times, opponents, tickets, and more, visit the CSUB Tournament Central page.

Tickets will also be available on a walk-up basis at the box office. Single game prices are $12 for Adult general admission, $8 for Senior (60+) or Youth (6-17) and $4 for Super Youth. Additional discounts are available to CSUB Faculty/Staff, CSUB Alumni, or members of Police, Fire, or Rescue.
 
The second round WBI games will be held Sunday or Monday, Mar. 18 or 19 with the semifinals set for Mar. 23 or 24. All game times are local to the site.
