CSUB To Finish Its Final Road Games Of The Season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team have pressure riding on them as they try and continue to stay in a first-place position for the last three conference game of the season. The Roadrunners will head out for their last two road games taking on the Wolverines on Thursday and then finishing the week with the Redhawks.

"It's amazing to see the focus in everyone eyes because everyone on this team wants it," said Greg McCall, head coach of CSUB's women's basketball. "It is the greatest feeling when your team and players want it more than you do. Our goal is to win and get better as a team. Each game we are getting better and we just want to continue to improve"

Tomorrow's game will be played in Utah in the morning for the Wolverines Education Day. The `Runners will face off against Utah Valley who are currently 4-7 in the conference and seek redemption after UVU lost in the Icardo Center for the WAC opener. Bakersfield leads the all-time series against Utah Valley (5-13) but the Wolverines are hungry to also win its final games to get a top standing for post season. The UVU team currently leads the conference in free throw pct. with .727% and 9.7 steals a game.

Saturday, CSUB will end its road games in Washington to play Seattle University. Just like the Wolverines, the Redhawks are looking for redemption as well to possibly try and knock down Bakersfield for its No. 1 spot. Seattle U are right on CSUB's tail with only two games behind and one game behind NMSU. Currently, the Redhawks are leading the WAC in scoring 68.7 points a game and are looking to overcome CSUB's 59.4 points a game.

Coach McCall went on to discuss about the overall goal of the `Runners, "The goal is to outright win the WAC Regular Season and then when the tournament comes around take care of that. Our goal right now is to try to win these next three games with our players continuing to come out focus and keep playing hard."

The `Runners will look to keep their momentum and try to keep a hold of its first place position by maintaining a strong defense and matching the offense with these next two games this week. Currently, CSUB holds their opponents defensively to 54.4 points per game and are currently ranked #11 in the nation in scoring defense and #68 with 18.28 turnovers forced.

CSUB will play Utah Valley on Thursday, Feb. 22 for a scheduled tip-off at 11 a.m. (M.T) and then Seattle U on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 4 pm. to wrap up its final away game of the season.
