CSUB Wins Eight Events Against Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's swimming and diving team won eight events during Saturday's dual competition against Fresno State at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center, but came up just and falling 155.5-125.5.

"We really, really raced well," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "That was a closer meet than I thought we were going to have. Sabrina Zavala was the stud of the day. I'm really excited. We had a really good UNLV Invite and we bounced back today and raced really well. I just need the mentality of the whole team to be the same as our top-notch kids."

Zavala was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the day's fourth event, swimming a season best and touching the wall nearly 3.5 seconds in front of her closest competitor (10:19.43). The senior also took second in the 500 free (5:03.69).

After being named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, freshman Autumn D'Arcy continued her momentum today, winning the 50 free (24.16), the 100 free (51.85) and the 100 butterfly (56.12). D'Arcy also lead off the 400 free relay and teamed up with Abigail Abshire, Maddie Cosgrove and Alisa Cooke to earn first place (3:30.89).

Cosgrove added two first-place individual finishes. The junior claimed the 200 free (1:54.07) and tied with Fresno State's Gabbie Libang for the top time in the 200 fly (2:06.21). Her classmate Jayssie Haynes had a first-place finish of her own in the 200 individual medley (2:06.38).

Abshire contributed two second-place efforts to the `Runner cause. She finished just behind D'Arcy in the 50 free (24.24) and 100 free (52.45).

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center on Wednesday, December 19 at 12:00 p.m. when they host UNLV.
