Women's Basketball Heads Midwest For Sunday Matinee

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will continue its six-game road slate this weekend when the Roadrunners head Midwest for a Sunday matinee with University of Nebraska Omaha (4-4). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT.

"We've been having some games where we've struggled to make some shots, especially down the stretch of some games," said head coach Greg McCall. "Easy layups, free throws, and wide-open three's – that's on us."

"This shooting slump is something we've been talking about," added McCall. "We need to get ourselves in better positions and create easier shot opportunities for our players."

The Mavericks welcome Bakersfield for the second time but the matchup will be played in a new on-campus venue, Baxter Arena. Omaha is coming off a 51-66 loss to Creighton that snapped a three-game win streak.

Sunday, Dec. 9 will be the fourth time that CSUB and the Mavs match up against one another. The Roadrunners own the all-time series 2-1. Although the Mavericks are a perfect 1-0 at home, Bakersfield returns 9 players from last year's roster that sealed a 52-43 decision when the red and black visited came to Icardo Center.

"Nebraska is a solid team that play hard," explained McCall. "They don't have one individual that is really going to stand out or take over the game but they're very strong defensively and aren't going to give up too many points."

The Roadrunners have lost their last four road contests and are coming off an eight-point edge at Cal State Fullerton. Senior guard Alexxus Gilbert has led the `Runners in scoring in the last three games and is averaging a team-high 16.3 points while senior forward Malayasia McHenry has paced the squad on the glass with 7.4 boards a game.
