CSUB Closes Nonconference Slate With No. 11 OSU & UC Riverside

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball will play the last contest of a six-game road stretch this weekend when the Roadrunners head to Corvallis, Oregon before closing its nonconference schedule at home on New Year's Eve. The women will take on No. 11 Oregon State University at Gill Coliseum on Saturday then welcome UC Riverside to IcardoCenter on Monday. Both games are set for 1 p.m.

"We're closing out our nonconference schedule with two tough opponents," said head coach Greg McCall.

Oregon State, 9-2 overall, has won its last four out of five contests and is coming off a 14-point win over Duke University. Their two losses on the season have come from top 25 opponents. OSU is 6-1 all time against Bakersfield, 4-0 against McCall. The teams last met in 2015, when the Beavers took a 75-51 win.

"It's been a tough grind on the road," added McCall. "We've lost a lot of close games, but I think these road games in the end will be instrumental in helping us grow and better prepare us for conference play. It'll be important for us to force Oregon into taking tough shots. We can't allow them to go inside-out. The goal is for us to play our cleanest game without fouling."

UC Riverside, 4-8 overall, finishes its nonconference slate with three-straight Western Athletic Conference opponents. The Highlanders dropped a 53-56 decision at Utah Valley last weekend, welcome New Mexico State to SRC Arena on Friday, then close their nonconference schedule with the Roadrunners on Monday.

"Riverside is a very good team," said McCall. "We'll finally be back home on Monday and we'll be lookin to close our nonconference schedule out with a win before starting conference action."

CSUB, 4-7 overall, has lost five-straight games and its last seven road contests. The `Runners are coming off a 12-point loss at University North Texas just before a seven-day break without competition to celebrate Christmas and prepare for the last two nonconference matchups on the docket.
