Homecoming For Seniors Gilbert & Fears With Texas Swing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball will play games four and five of its six-game December road docket this week when the Roadrunners head to Texas for a couple of homecoming games for Dallas natives Alexxus Gilbert and Jeri Fears. The squad will take on Southern Methodist University on Wednesday and North Texas University on Friday. Both games are set for 7 p.m. CT.

SMU (5-5) is coming off of a two-game losing streak after stumbling 57-58 in overtime at Northern Colorado then dropping a 52-66 decision at Rice. North Texas (5-5) will enter Friday's clash coming off a 59-46 win over Xavier University of Louisiana. Both opponents this week have won three out of their last five contests.

The Roadrunners stop in Dallas first for round two in the all-time series with the Mustangs. Last season the `Runners opened the series with a 29-41 loss at Moody Collesium, despite holding the Mustangs scoreless in the second quarter and going into the fourth quarter with a 26-24 lead. A win on Wednesday would tie the all-time series 1-1 and send seniors Gilbert and Fears out with a win in their hometown.

After Dallas, Bakersfield will head an hour north for Denton, Texas to open an away-home series with the Mean Green. North Texas has a veteran group led by University of Kansas transfer Terriell Bradley and junior college transfer Anisha George. Bradley had a three-game stretch back in November where she scored 40, 30, and 36 points consecutively.

CSUB has lost three straight games and its last five road contests. The `Runners are coming off a seven-point loss at University of Nebraska Omaha and a nine-day grace period to prepare for the Mustangs and Green Mean this week. An undefeated Texas trip would put the team's overall record back over .500 (6-5).
