Women’s Swimming Signs Australian

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield Director of Swimming Chris Hansen dipped into international waters for his latest signee to the women's swimming and diving squad, inking Mikayla Popham from Wurtulla, Queensland, Australia.

Popham currently swims for the Kawana Waters Swim Club and is coached by Michael Sage has produced long course times of 58.07 in the 100-meter freestyle, 2:04.00 in the 200 free and 4:23.27 in the 400 free.  When using the U.S. Swimming conversion chart, those times in yards convert to 50.81 in the 100 free, 1:48.82 in the 200 free and 4:54.98 in the 500 free, which would all rank her in the top five in CSUB history and a finalist at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

"We are excited to have Mikayla join our `Runner family," said Hansen.  "Ironically, her times and events remind me of Michaela Paige who graduated two years ago.  Mikayla will make an immediate impact to our sprint relays and will add much needed depth to our dual meet lineups."

The `Runners will be back at home next week when they host UNLV at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center at 12:00 p.m. on December 19.
