Blakley-Beanes Captures Menlo Open

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield redshirt junior wrestler Noah Blakley-Beanes won the Menlo College Open on Saturday afternoon at 141 pounds in the first open competition of the season for the Roadrunners.

Blakley-Beanes began the day with a 9-2 decision over Sebastian Marin of Menlo and advanced to the semifinals with a victory by injury default.  In the round of four, he earned a 17-1 technical fall against Anthony Loera who was wrestling unattached.  Blakley-Beanes earned another win by injury default in the championship match.

Also in the 141-pound class, Angelo Martinoni went 3-1 on the day to take third.  The freshman was dominant in his first three matches of the day.  He earned a 15-1 major victory over Stanford's Jack Ramalia in his first match and dominated Mark Avila 14-2 for his second major win of the day.  In the quarterfinals, Martinoni defeated his second Pac-12 opponent of the day, beating Cal Poly's Ryan Farina by technical fall 23-6.  Martinoni's run would end in the semifinals as he was defeated by Life Pacific's Elijah Palacio 8-3.

Redshirt freshman Josh Loomer and redshirt sophomore Jarrod Snyder claimed second on the afternoon.

Competing at 197, Loomer had no issues in his opener, defeating Thomas Schmitt of Menlo 14-4, but was narrowly defeated in the title match 7-5 in overtime by Schmitt's teammate Bruce Valdez.  In the heavyweight division, Snyder knocked off Cal Poly's Seville Hayes 2-1 and defeated another Mustang, Sam Aguilar, 10-2 to advance to the championship.  It was a high-scoring championship match, but Snyder couldn't keep pace with Danny Chaid, falling 24-11.

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Friday at Kent State. CSUB will clash with the Golden Flashes, who are receiving votes in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll to start the season.  The `Runners will then tussle with No. 3 Iowa and No. 19 Wisconsin.  On Saturday, CSUB will conclude the road trip with a dual at Pittsburgh, who is also receiving votes in the poll.
