CSUB Heads North For San Jose State Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will open post-Thanksgiving action on the road this weekend when the Roadrunners head north to face San Jose State University on Saturday, Nov. 24. The contest is set to tip-off at 12 p.m. at The Event Center.

San Jose State is coming off a three-game losing streak to Portland State (80-51), San Francisco University (85-63), and San Francisco State (73-66). The Spartans have allowed teams to score an average of 79 points per game while Bakersfield has limited its opponents to 55 points through four games.

CSUB owns the all-time record 4-1. The Roadrunners had won four straight over SJSU since opening the series in 2007 but tallied their first loss against the Spartans last season in a 67-57 decision at The Event Center.

"I think our mindset heading into this game is a lot different than last year," explained head coach Greg McCall. "We've added a few wrinkles defensively that we'll be able to throw at San Jose State in certain game situations and hopefully our defensive adjustments give us the edge we need to pull out the win on the road."

Bakersfield has won three of its last four contests to start the 2018-19 season. The Roadrunners are coming off a 74-46 win over Whittier College led by senior Malayasia McHenry's season-high 17 points. Alexxus Gilbert and Vanessa Austin had 12 and 10 points, respectively, to round out the groups' double-digit scorers on the night.

"We've been talking about not fouling the other team but still being aggressive on both ends of the floor," added McCall. "Looking at the box score vs. Whittier I was pleased to see that we did a better job adjusting to the officials without sacrificing our intensity. Now we need to do a better job at rebounding the ball. That'll be something the coaching staff and myself will be looking at this weekend."
