`Runners Sink Weber State With 3-Point Dagger

BIMINI, The Bahamas – With the natives of Bimini cheering them on, the Roadrunners completed a dramatic, come-from-behind victory for the second-straight night to close out the Junkanoo Jam. Justin Edler-Davis hit a dagger with 20 seconds to go in Saturday night's victory and Damiyne Durham followed that act with a game-winner of his own on Sunday. Durham, a redshirt senior sharpshooter, nailed a three-pointer with 5.0 seconds on the clock to give the `Runners a 68-67 victory over Weber State.

The `Runners and Wildcats were locked in a defensive battle through most of the first half. After shaking off some early jitters, the CSUB offense eventually started rolling, building a 15-7 lead with 9:31 left in the period.

Bakersfield's defense held Weber State to just three made field goals over a 15-minute span. Despite the defensive efficiency from the `Runners, the Wildcats found an offensive rhythm and went on a 15-2 run to climb back in the game. Bakersfield went to the locker room with a 33-30 lead after forcing nine turnovers in the period.

Weber State started the second half with all of its momentum gained at the end of the first. A 14-2 run put the Wildcats ahead of the `Runners, 44-35, before Durham snapped the spurt with a three-pointer.

A Weber State dunk with just over 10 minutes remaining gave the Wildcats an 11-point lead, but senior Rickey Holden answered right back with a three-pointer for the `Runners. Late in the period, a 13-4 run by the `Runners pulled CSUB within two points at 61-59.

Weber State held a 67-65 lead with two minutes and 12 seconds remaining, but CSUB's defense would hold the Wildcats scoreless through the rest of the game. Redshirt sophomore Taze Moore recorded a steal with just over a minute remaining and Greg Lee pulled down a big rebound with 35 seconds left. Head Coach Rod Barnes called a timeout to draw up a play for the last shot and it worked to perfection.

Moore created a dribble-drive hand off on the wing and set Durham up for the shot. The redshirt senior knocked down the game-winner with 5.0 seconds remaining and a defensive stand by the `Runners held up to give CSUB a dramatic, one-point victory for the second-straight night.

Lee, a redshirt sophomore, led all `Runners with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Edler-Davis, a native of San Diego, Calif. added 12 points while Moore, a graduate of Southaven High School in Mississippi, had seven points, three rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals to help the `Runners earn the victory.

Durham, who hails from Oakwood, Texas, wrapped up Sunday's game with 11 points and five rebounds . The game-winner and a pair of strong performances earned the guard All-Tournament honors.

As a team, Bakersfield shot 50% from the field and 36.8% from behind the arc against the Wildcats. CSUB recorded 13 assists, lending a helping hand on more than half of its 25 field goals. The `Runner defense gave Weber State trouble all night, forcing 19 turnovers. The Wildcats came into the game averaging 88 points a contest, but came up 21 points of their average against Bakersfield's defense.

CSUB (3-2) concluded its time in The Bahamas with a 2-1 record at the Junkanoo Jam. The `Runners will have a few days to rest and recover before heading to a tough test in Los Angeles as Bakersfield will face USC on the road Nov. 25.
