`Runners To Wrap Regular Season At UVU & Seattle U

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The final week of the regular season has arrived for CSU Bakersfield's volleyball team. The Roadrunners will hit the road for their final two matches before the Western Athletic Conference Tournament with seeds still on the line.

"We are excited to be going on the road for our final road trip of the season," said Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. "We are just looking into getting a little bit better before coming back to host the WAC Tournament."

On Thursday, Nov. 15, the `Runners will take on Utah Valley, the team CSUB is currently tied with in the WAC standings. Thursday's clash in Orem, Utah could very well decide which team will take home the fourth seed in the WAC Tournament. Saturday's match at Seattle U will also prove to be pivotal as the `Runners will need to take care of business in order to lock their seed in.

Utah Valley (11-14, 4-9 WAC) will welcome CSUB to Orem having won four of its last five matches. Kazna Tarawhiti leads the WAC in hitting, averaging 4.10 kills per set. On the defensive end, Makaila Jarema ranks is the league's top blocker with 1.65 blocks per set. The Wolverines are not as deep as the `Runners but have heavy firepower that will make for a tough challenge.

Seattle U (9-18, 2-12 WAC) has had a rough end to its season as the Redhawks have dropped 12 of their last 13 matches. Senior Day will give Seattle U plenty of motivation to close the season out with a win, so, the `Runners will need to be prepared for a fight. The Redhawks have plenty of hitting options with six women averaging 1.9 kills per set or more. Eve Kerschenbaum leads the team with 2.8 kills per set while Maja Stojanovic is a danger at the net with 1.09 blocks per set.

CSU Bakersfield (14-13, 7-7 WAC) will hit the road on a two-match win streak. The `Runners rode big performances out of their two seniors for a five-set victory over Grand Canyon on Senior Day last Saturday. For her efforts, Mattison DeGarmo earned WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The native of Castle Rock, Colo. posted her first collegiate double-double with 12 kills and 10 blocks while DeGarmo's blocks total reset CSUB's Division I single-match record in the category.

Thursday's match in Orem is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (PT) first serve. The `Runners and Redhawks will meet at 1 p.m. in Seattle on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed live via the WAC Digital Network. For links to the live streams as well as live stats, visit the CSUB volleyball schedule page.
