CSUB Opens Conference Home Slate This Weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team will open its Western Athletic Conference home schedule with Seattle University and University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley. The Roadrunners welcome the Redhawks on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff then host the Vaqueros at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

"We've had a solid week of practice and we're looking forward to stepping on the field and competing against two quality opponents," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio."

This will be the 20th time that Bakersfield has faced Seattle U. The first meeting between both programs was on Sept. 30, 2001 when SU opened the series with a 2-1 edge over the Roadrunners at home. The Redhawks are undefeated in the all-time series.

CSU Bakersfield is 3-1 when matched up with UT Rio Grande Valley. The Roadrunners opened the series with a 4-2 win at Main Soccer Field in 2014 then went to Edinburg, Texas the following season and tallied a 3-0 shutout on the road. Bakersfield split its last two meetings with URTGV. The Roadrunners secured a 1-0 shutout at home in the final minute of regulation but dropped a 2-0 decision last year.

Seattle U (3-7-2, 1-1 WAC) opened conference action with a 4-0 shutout over California Baptist University then fell 1-0 vs. Grand Canyon. UT Rio Grande Valley (7-5-1, 1-1 WAC) suffered a 3-0 loss against Kansas City then bounced back with a 3-1 win over Utah Valley. The Vaqueros will face Grand Canyon on Friday before preparing for Sunday's clash.

CSUB split its first two league contests on the road opening weekend. The Roadrunners defeated Chicago State in a 5-2 decision but lost 4-0 to preseason favorite Kansas City.

Evelyn Daly scored her first collegiate goal at CSU. Eszter Toth recorded her first goal of the season, second in her career. Aryana Harvey tallied her third goal on the year while Aminah Settles had a game-high five points off two goals and an assist.

"This is the weekend where teams will start to separate from each other in the standings," added Vecchio. "We have to get as many points as possible while at home."
