‘Runner Ready Program: Freshman Wrestler Benefits From Session

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Student-athletes who attended the `Runner Ready Program session on time management last Tuesday left with practical tools they can use to bring order to their busy schedules. Chance Rich, a freshman on the CSU Bakersfield wrestling team, was one of these student-athletes in attendance who benefited.

When asked what his favorite activity from the time management session was Rich replied, "when we got into groups and discussed how we thought we could manage our time better and what we would do to make that happen."

A typical day for Rich includes weight training in the morning, classes, tutoring at the Kegley Center for Student Success, wrestling practice, home to finish homework left over from study hall, then off to bed. Wake up; repeat.

"The whole purpose of the time management session was to help educate and structure our student-athletes to be more organized and learn the importance of managing their time properly," explained `Runner Ready Program Coordinator, Doc Waller.

The transition from high school to college can be challenging for most students, let alone student-athletes, but for Rich, "the transition from high school to college has been for the most part pretty easy because of all the help offered by CSUB. My biggest challenge so far has just been adjusting to wrestling at the next level."

"Some tips I learned were to write down all the important things I need to do and keep the list with me so if I forget I will have it written down already," explained Rich. "Also reward yourself for doing good and staying on top of everything."

The next `Runner Ready Program session is next Tuesday, Nov. 6. 2018 Leadership Academy participants will attend a luncheon to follow up on their experiences since the summer seminar.
