CSUB Falls to California Baptist in First Dual of the Season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the dual meet season on Saturday at the Hillman Aquatic Center.  Despite multiple victories from Kris Rogic and Autumn D'Arcy on the afternoon, both the men's and women's teams were defeated by California Baptist.

The Lancers earned a narrow 153-147 victory on the women's side and held a 185-115 edge for the men.

"Our medley relay had some slow exchanges that hurt us for the win," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "Autumn D'Arcy and Jayssie Haynes again led the day with two individual event wins.  Bella Magalong, Summer D'Arcy, Sabrina Zavala, Maddie Cosgrove and Alisa Cooke also had big days.  Moving forward in our dual meet season we need every lady to step up."

Autumn D'Arcy had a huge day with three total victories, highlighted by her first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.  D'Arcy reset her own personal record in the event, touching the wall in 54.80, which is good for second in school history.  She also claimed victories in the 100 backstroke (57.56) and swam the lead leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:30.44).  Abigail Abshire, Cooke and Haynes also teamed up on the winning foursome.

Haynes touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:52.68) and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.25), while placing second in the 200 individual medley (2:08.33)
Cosgrove recorded a first-place finish and joined Autumn D'Arcy in cracking the all-time top five list with a 2:05.75 in the 200 fly. She also placed third in the 500 free (5:07.48) and second in the 100 fly (58.50).

Cooke touched the wall first in the 100 free (53.02), while Summer D'Arcy was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:07.74).  Zavala produced runner-up finishes in the 500 free (5:06.50) and the 1,000 free (10:29.08) and Magalong placed third in the 200 breast (2:25.20).

On the men's side, Rogic's pair of victories and Gillilan's win in the 100 fly set the tone for the Roadrunners.

"Kris Rogic won both the 100 and 200 back in season-best times," said Hansen.  "He is setting himself up in the right direction.  Loren Gillilan also had amazing swims today.  Richie Campbell and Noah Hickman continue to impress me in the sprint events."

Rogic cruised to victory in the 100 back (48.87) and 200 back (1:49.21), while Gillilan nearly set a personal record in his 100 fly (48.27) win.  Rogic also touched the wall second in the 200 IM (1:53.92) and Gillilan earned a runner-up finish in the 100 free (46.06).

Campbell aided the `Runner effort by winning the 50 free (21.15), while Hickman took third in the event (21.28).  Senior Jake Chir finished second in the 100 breast (56.44) and Greg Lee had a third-place showing in the 200 breast 2:07.40.

Justice Kramer also chipped in as he finished fourth in the 200 fly (1:53.88).  Ryan Brimer took fifth in the 200 back (1:55.75).

The CSUB women's team will be back in action on Friday at the Hillman Aquatics Center when they dual Pepperdine at 12:00 p.m. The men will take next week off before the divers head to USC for the Trojan Diving Invite on November 9.
