Home Finale Features Senior Night

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team is home this weekend for their final contest of the regular season, as the Roadrunners return to the pitch Friday at 5 p.m. to host Grand Canyon University for Senior Night, honoring graduating players Jordin Bartel, Mel Cea, Sabrina Delgado, Elle Estes, Coral Lake, Claire Nelson, Aminah Settles, Tori VandeHoef and Haley Vicente

"We are looking forward to continue with our improvement before heading to the WAC tournament," said head coach Sebastian Vecchio. "GCU is quality team, very well coached, and we'll need to approach this game as if we need three points to get in the tournament."

This will be the 23rd time that Bakersfield has faced Grand Canyon. The first meeting between both programs was on October 26, 1996 when the Roadrunners opened the series with a 2-0 shutout on the road. Last year the Lopes clinched a 3-0 victory at home. Friday's home contest could lift the Roadrunners as high as fourth in league standings with California Baptist University not eligible for postseason.

In the case of a tie between two teams in the final standings, position shall be determined by the winner of the head-to-head competition is the higher seed. If Sunday's match results in a tie, league officials will compare the tied teams' goal differentials within conference games (up to a maximum three goals). Next, the tied teams' goals scored within conference games would be compared and if a tie still remains, the conference office shall conduct a draw and the drawn team shall receive the higher seed.

Grand Canyon (6-12-1, 3-3-1 WAC) opened conference play with a win at Seattle U then dropped their next two matches at home against UT Rio Grande Valley and CBU before splitting the next two against Chicago State and Kansas City. The Lopes are coming off a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Utah Valley and a 1-0 shutout over New Mexico State.

CSUB (6-10-0, 3-4 WAC) split its first two conference contests on the road with Chicago State and Kansas City then dropped the next three contests against Seattle U, UTRGV and Utah Valley before picking up two shutout wins over California Baptist (1-0) and New Mexico State (2-0) last weekend.

"I would like to encourage all our fans to show up early and help us celebrate this amazing senior class," added Vecchio.
