CSUB Wins Over Loyola But Come Up Short Against UCSD

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's swimming and dive team traveled to Loyola Marymount to take on the Lions and UCSD Tritons. The women proved dominance over Loyola 238-50 but came up short against UCSD 191-109.

"Sabrina Zavala, Isabella Magalong, Maddie Cosgrove and Jayssie Haynes led the women today against LMU," said Chris Hansen, head coach of swim and dive. "UCSD is tough, we just don't have the depth yet, but our freshman women keep getting stronger. This will start being a real close meet real soon."

Junior Zavala finished in first place in the 1000 free style with a time of 10:29.41 and also the 500 free with a time of 5:09.96. Freshman and Long Beach Calif. native, Magalong, paced the `Runners for a first place finish in the 100 breast with a time 1:06.82 and finished in second place in the 200 breast as well as the 200 IM.

Sophomore Haynes continued to show power as she has been for the whole season and placed first in 200 free against both UCSD and Loyola and second in the 200 breasts and 200 IM only against UCSD but ended with a first-place finish against Loyola. Cosgrove competed in the 200 fly, 100 free and the 100 fly and managed to secure first place wins in all three events against the Lions.

Hannah Chernabaeff was the top diver in the 1 meter dive with a score of 253.64 over both the Lion and Tritons but finished in second the 3 meter dive over UCSD.

The `Runners will look to keep the momentum going in two weeks as they return to their own pool Jan. 20 against UC Santa Cruz.
