`Runners Come Only 6 Points Short Against UCSD

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men's swimming and dive team traveled to Loyola Marymount with the women's team but only swam against the UCSD Tritons. The men came just a little short as they only lost by 6 points, 150-144.

"In all my years of coaching I never went into the last two events with a tied score, 129-129," said Head Coach Chris Hansen. "This is how close are teams are, this is what is going to make the Big West a fun meet in the future. Lovre Soric, Loren Gillilan, Noah Hultner and Owen van Krimpen had some big wins for us today. Jake Chir and Kris Rogic might have both got second in the 100 Breast and 100 Back respectively, but both posted great times."

UCSD has always been a tough team to beat and this year the `Runners were able to come very close and put the Tritons right where they wanted with only losing by six points. Soric paced the `Runners in first place in the 200 free and the 200 IM. Gillilan finished at the top in the 50 free and the 100 butterfly and secured a second place finish in the 100 free by a little less than two seconds.

Among the other top `Runners were sophomore Hultner and junior van Krimpen who raced in the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle together. Hultner placed first in the 1000 free and third in the 500 freestyle while van Krimpen finished first in the same event and second in the 1000 free.

Hansen went on to comment about the meet, "Losing by six points stings a bit. Our 200 Medley Relay was off today and not having Loren, Kris and Lovre on the 400 Free Relay wasn't in our favor but we needed them in individual events."

The `Runners will look to keep the momentum going in two weeks as they return to their own pool Jan. 20 against UC Santa Cruz.
