`Runners To Play CSU and UMKC On The Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team are set for two road conference match ups against Chicago State and UMKC. The Roadrunners are set to play the two teams in again in the second leg of the season. First, CSUB will head to the windy city and play the Cougars on Thursday evening and then head a few miles south to take on the Kangaroos in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.

"With Chicago State coming up first, we can't take any team for granted," said Greg McCall, head coach of CSUB's women's basketball team. "We have to make sure we play no matter who the opponent is, we can't get up from one game and down on another. Every game is crucial for us just need to go in and play our game and take care of ourselves."

Thursday, the `Runners will head to CSU, who remain winless in the season so far. Despite being winless, the Cougars are hungry for a win and have an advantage on CSUB when it comes to free throws made. Currently, the team ranks No. 6 in the conference in free throws percentage with .695% while the `Runners rank No. 8. On the season, freshman Tyeshia Bowers leads the Cougars with 12 points per game, 2.5 assists per game and has 26 steals.

"The win against Seattle U was huge for and we were excited but we know we have to move forward and take care of the next road games. UMKC beat us here by two points and we were not focused at all. We have to go in there and be ready to go, be ready to play at both places. We need to take care of us and set up a good match before we play New Mexico State."

Bakersfield will play against UMKC on their courts for a revenge game, after CSUB took a heartbreaking loss in the Icardo Center two weeks ago. The Kangaroos are 3-3 in the conference and are itching to have a one game advantage over the `Runners after the weekend if they can beat GCU again as well. As a team, the Roos are #3 in scoring offense (66 ppg) and have a 2.2 scoring margin over its opponents. UMKC will use its defense to overcome the `Runners as they are ranked No. 1 in rebounding defense and No. 2 with 8.8 steals per game.

CSUB will play Chicago State on Thursday, Feb. 1 for a scheduled tip-off at 7 p.m. (CT) and then UMKC on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 pm. (CT). Roadrunner can catch all the action by following live stats and video. The links can be found on the women's basketball schedule page.
