`Runners Black Out Game Will Be Against Seattle U

BAKERSFIELD, Calif – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will host its National Girl's and Women in Sport day at the Icardo center for a WAC and Black Out game against Seattle U. The Roadrunners are looking to add another home win on Saturday afternoon in honor of the annual event.

"The whole team has stepped up and shown that they are ready to go, " said Greg McCall, head coach of CSUB's women's basketball team. "Seattle are playing very well right now but they are coming here and we have to take care of it at home. It's going to be very, very, very important we do a good job and so far in practice we have been practicing well."

Bakersfield will go toe to toe against Seattle U on Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks will come to CSUB with a 10-10, 4-1(WAC) record. As a team, SU are No.1 (WAC) in scoring offense (69.1 ppg) and lead in assist to turnover ratios (1.02). The team is led by redshirt senior Alexis Montgomery who has 20.8 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game and is leading the conference. Other Redhawks that are contributing to the team are senior Jacinta Beckley with 13.5 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game while sophomore Kamira Sanders is averaging 11.5 points, 6.1 rebounds per game and has 67 assists for the season.

McCall went on to discuss more about the Seattle team, "We never got a chance to play Seattle U because they beat us twice in the regular season last year and even though we tied them for second it sent them to a higher post season play in the WNIT. We have to do better job at eliminating their lead scorer because she carries the team."

The `Runners will look to add another home win in the conference against tough opponents Seattle U by using their top WAC ranked defense. Currently, CSUB holds their opponents defensively to 56.4 points per game and are currently ranked #25 in the nation in scoring defense and #67 with 18.68 turnovers forced.

CSUB will open up festivities at 9 a.m. Jan. 20 for morning sessions in conjunction with National Girl's Day and Women in Sports at the Icardo Center followed by the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans who cannot make the game can follow live stats and video. The links can be found on the women's basketball schedule page.
