FRESNO, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's swim team secured a big 173-120 road victory at Fresno Pacific on Saturday afternoon behind strong victorious outings from
Noah Hultner,
Adam Estrella and
Kris Rogic.
Roadrunner sophomore Hultner won both the 500 free (4:44.15) and the 1000 free with a time of 9:43.09. Rogic, a freshman from Croatia, would win the 200 back (1:52.31) and the 400IM with a time of 4:09.05.
CSUB's Director of Swimming,
Chris Hansen said, "Fresno Pacific has some new international swimmers that suited up, which was a surprise. We just finished our four toughest weeks of training, so I wasn't sure how strong we would finish." Hansen added, "Our first half was a little shaky, but the men stepped up in the second half to secure the victory."
Roadrunner junior
Greg Lee would get CSUB going with a big win in the 200 breast (2:07.49) and freshman
Loren Gillilan would follow with a victory of his own in the 100 fly (49.89).
`Runners senior
Joe Cobarrubias would get his first dual meet win in his collegiate career by swimming a 1:43.66 in the 200 free and Hansen said, "wins like Joe's is why I love coaching."
Adam Estrella would win the 3 meter diving competition with a total score of 244.85 and the 1 meter with a score of 222.20.
Hansen would add, "The men are starting to gel. I've been waiting all season to see this young team come together and I saw a glimpse of that today."
The `Runners will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 27, when they host UC Santa Cruz at 12 p.m. at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center in Bakersfield.
