Box Score Kansas City, MO – The UMKC Kangaroos would get their first conference win of the season behind some hot three point shooting and the biggest three of the night was the game winner from Xavier Bishop with 1.2 seconds remaining. The Roos would improve to 6-14 overall and 1-3 in Western Athletic Conference play with a 62-59 victory on their home floor over CSUB on Thursday night. The `Runners fall to 7-12 and 0-4 in the WAC.
The `Runners took the lead early in the first half by running off six points in a row to open the game, but the Roos caught fire from three and saying caught fire does not do it justice. UMKC would take a 33-31 halftime lead behind an incredible 8-15 (53%) shooting from three point territory and had five different Roos players make threes. The Roos would shoot 10-26 (38%) from the field overall.
The `Runners would shoot 45% (10-22) from the field in the first half, but were only 1-6 from three point land. CSUB outrebounded UMKC 20-10 after 20 minutes and outscored the Roos 16-4 with points in the paint behind
Moataz Aly's nine points. `Runners freshman
Jarkel Joiner led all scorers with 10 points in the first half and he also had a game leading six rebounds.
CSUB would fight the entire second half to just get it tied or grab the lead and with 1:04 remaining, the `Runners did just that. Joiner would take it in with the trees, make his layup, get fouled and the game was tied at 56. The freshman, ranked in the top 10 in free throw shooting in the country coming into the night, made his free throw and the `Runners had the lead. But the lead would last all of 20 seconds as Aly would foul Broderick Robinson on a three point attempt and Robinson would make all three to give the Roos the 59-57 lead.

Shon Briggs would tie the game with a layup with 29 seconds remaining, but Xavier Bishop would drain the game winning three and UMKC would squeak out a 62-59 win on their home floor.
CSUB would get a double double from Joiner, 19 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs for either team. The `Runners would get 15 points from Aly and 14 points, five boards and six assists from Briggs.
UMKC would finish the game shooting 38% from the field and 11-28 (39%) from three point territory. The `Runners shot 43% from the field, but were just 3-14 from three. CSUB dominated the glass, outrebounded UMKC 42-23 and outscored UMKC in points in the paint by 14 (34-20). The `Runners would turn the ball over 15 times and that led to 19 UMKC points.
The `Runners will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Chicago tomorrow for a game at Chicago State on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. CST, 12 p.m. Bakersfield time.
